Ultra-Broadband Telecommunications Services 

Utilizing Electrical Utility Infrastructure   

 

Israel Electrical Company (IEC) successfully founded a private funded initiative, Israel Broadband Company (IBC), providing ultra-broadband telecom services throughout Israel, based on state-of-the-art technology, utilizing IEC electrical infrastructure.

 

IEC provides IBC with several key services:

 

• Backbone network services: IEC provides IBC bandwidth between its core facilities utilizing wavelengths (lambdas) on the existing fiber cables on the electrical transmission network at line speeds up to 100 Gb/s.  IEC deploys mostly overhead Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) optical cables, with modern Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment.

• Access Network services: IEC deploys for IBC optical fiber cables on the IEC electrical distribution network.

• IEC deploys both overhead and underground networks, using All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) optical cables in overhead networks, blown fibers in underground networks.

• Site hosting: all major IBC sites are hosted in IEC sites.
